On September 29, 2025, North Central Public Power District’s (NCPPD) board of directors voted to sign a new contract with its power supplier, Nebraska G & T (Generation and Transmission). This agreement will ensure that NCPPD will have a relationship with a local generation and transmission provider for electricity over the next 35 years. This agreement is an all-requirements contract for electrical power. The power is physically generated by Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) and contracted through Nebraska G & T to supply NPPD’s electrical needs.

The new contract will take effect on January 1, 2026. NPPD is acquiring generation that will require additional capital. NPPD will issue bonds for the necessary capital for terms as long as 35 years. NCPPD’s current contract is nearly 10 years into a 20-year term. The Bond rating agencies base NPPD’s ability to pay its bonds on the integrity of its revenue streams. The better the rating, the more favorable the interest rates are on the bonds. By renegotiating the contracts to serve the next 35 years, NPPD can demonstrate its certainty in its ability to pay.
