Call Before you Dig

Digger’s Hotline of Nebraska

If you are planning on doing any digging around your home or business, state law requires that you contact the Diggers Hotline of Nebraska at 811 or 800-331-5666 at least two working days before you dig. All locates are done free of charge.

Call – 811 or 1-800-331-5666

Please be prepared with the following information:

  • Your name, address and phone number.
  • Type of work being done and the depth of the proposed excavation.
  • City/County, Township, Range, Section & Quarter Section (if rural).
  • Street address or location (on what street, how far and in what direction from nearest cross street, on what side of street?).

Once you place the call, Digger’s Hotline will then contact all utilities (electric, gas, phone, and cable TV) to locate and mark their underground facilities.

Locates should be requested 48 hours (two business working days), but not more than 10 business working days in advance of digging.

In many cases white lines staking or flagging your proposed site can speed up the locate process by helping the locators see where you plan to work.

Diggers Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Locate requests entered into the system after business hours or on weekends or holidays will not be sent out until 7:00 am the next business day – except emergencies.

If you use the website or fax program to enter your locate requests, be sure to watch for your response. If there is a problem with the information you provided, the request may be sent back to you asking for clarification. Do not assume that because you sent the request in that it was received. Check your emails or faxes to be sure that you have gotten a ticket number, work begin date and list of utility members that were notified. If you have not gotten a response within a few hours, call the center to see if it was received.
